Toronto’s Mayoral Race Taking Shape

John Tory has confirmed that he will be running for a third term for Mayor of Toronto when registration opens in May. The election is scheduled for October 24th and, if he wins, will likely be Tory’s last term according to himself. Tory said his goals are to steer Toronto out of the pandemic and to try and make the city more affordable to live in. He has faced controversy over his handling of the homeless crisis after sending in police officers in riot gear to clear Trinity Bellwoods but is still coming off a 2018 election that saw him receive 60% of votes though voter turnout was extremely low (41% of eligible voters). We’ll also be covering the city council race as it continues to take shape in the coming weeks and months!
